jMonkeyEngine got accepted for GSoC 2014!

Update 2: We are now accepting applications. Please login and submit yours!

Update: Interested developers should read the Application Guide.

This is our first ever GSoC participation, and we’re mighty excited. From their site:

Google Summer of Code is a global program that offers post-secondary student developers ages 18 and older stipends to write code for various open source software projects.

Note: Non-students can still apply to our internal jME SoC event. All students applying for GSoC are automatically considered for jME SoC projects as well.

Please familiarise yourself with the GSoC events and timeline page. Some important dates are:

  • 10. – 21. March: We start accepting student (and non-student) applications.
  • 9. April: We know how many “Slot allocations” (i.e. $5500 stipends) Google has granted us. (likely 1-3)
  • 18. April: All mentors must be signed up and matched with a student (and their respective project).
  • 19. May: Work starts.
  • 18. August: Work ends.

Questions/Ideas? Please add them to our Code & Projects forum. Student (and non-student) application guides will be announced shortly. Our Summer of Code Page (accessible at the bottom of our side-navigation throughout the event) will be kept up to date with the latest details.

That’s awesome, congratulations! I did it as a student several years ago and had a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to all the cool student projects :)

Started getting some people asking in IRC about signing up for this. Is there a place to post interest, get signed up etc. Or another place I should be linking people to go to specifically? Also, as a more recent joiner, I’d like to know where I could express interest in a SoC project as I never had the opportunity when I was in school.

#jme on freenode. Been getting some more traffic recently. It would also be nice if it was a bit more prominently displayed on the website :D
