2 Video tutorials (world editing, alpha materials)

Hello friends!!!

I recently did 2 video tutorials… Could you post them into our documentation with beautiful music?

1 - Transparent material

2 - World editing with instances with blender. For example, if you need to make 1 000 000 trees instances in a scene you are able to use blender as world editor…

file is called JME3_2_video_tutorials.tar.gz.

Thank you the developers for such a good engine!!! I wish you good luck!!!

First off, thanks a bunch for making these tutorials, this is one of the best ways of making a contribution!

Second, why do you need us to process them further? I think it would be easier if you upload them to YouTube yourself, that way you apply any music you’d like from their music library, and you can supplement your video with various pop-ups. Then we can simply add the videos to our playlists to give them more exposure.

As for the wiki, I’m sure @Zathras will find a place for these. You can edit the wiki yourself you know, so maybe zathras can just set you up with a skeleton article and then you could add some meat on it.

Keep doing these please! They’re awesome contributions, and you’ll soon be rewarded in full with vanity forum badges :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok, I did!!!

thanks mifth, you’re life saver :stuck_out_tongue:

Please, add them there!!! https://wiki.jmonkeyengine.org/legacy/doku.php/jme3

Thanks, Mifth! I’m at work now but I’ll watch and add them later tonight!

Whoa whoa whoa, hold the phone. Did I see you go straight from a blend.scene to a j3o?

I’ve still been using the ogre exporter manually in blender… I thought that was… How you did it… Brain, hurts… XD

I’ll have to give that a try next chance I get. Good job on the videos!

Cheers!

Blender rocks!!! Just install Blender Support plugin from JME repository. But JME cannot import Empties. It’s too bad.

This calls for some explanation. 3 months ago, @pgi started work on a jMP plugin: Blender Loader. Before the plugin was 100% finished he abruptly left the community and all of his projects (he just told us he had to leave; don’t start theorizing please).

For Blender 2.49, OgreXML exports is still the best option. However @mifth here is using Blender 2.5, for which there is no OgreXML export available (yet?), hence this Blender Loader is his best option in spite of its flaws. If someone were to take it upon them to complete the development of this plugin (and keep it 2.49 and 2.5, (2.6) cross compatible) that would be a huge contribution.

Ogre scene does not support instances. 90% blenderheads uses blender 2.5 now. 2.49 is too old. Ogre is good format, but I suppose BLENDER should be supported, as every little studio, indie developer or student use blender instead of expensive 3dmax and so on.

Actually, all we need… bones with animation and empties…

I don’t think anyone in the team is going to disagree with you mifth. Only problem is the developers already have their hands full, and as a near-finished plugin this project presents an ideal opening for any capable but still green developer to get involved with a high priority task. If you know someone who might be interested in such a commitment, point them over here.

Alternatively, if you know of some Blender programmer / game development communities that might have gone under my radar, do please point them out to me so I can try reach out. The kind of site I’m looking for is the more general-purpose kind, not strictly BGE oriented like gameblender.org.

I will post message to blendernation.com (30000 blender heads). Give me coordinates the developer who will be able to assist or explain that issue.

Ehm what? You mean who would be available to mentor this developer when necessary? That would mainly be @Normen, but the best approach for any developer is to keep his work transparent by posting his progress updates on this forum, much like pgi did.

Thanks for the helping hand mate!

Really awesome, mifth! The 3rd video is great too, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yS9a9o4WzL8 ! Where did the Physics Editor and Mesh Tool plugin come from, did glaucomardano write it? I missed that…

Mifth, for future videos: When you record in a smaller resolution, then the image quality gets better and more readable. People never use the full window width anyway.

Does anyone know what the best ratio for sharp video Youtube is? 1024x640, 1024x768, 800x600?

Ok, please, give me a direct link to the blender support plugin. Also, what versions of java, netbeans and other libraries should use the dev? i want to post detailed explanation of what the dev should know and use…

The importer code is available here. What you need is experience in Java and actually in jME3 so you know how the model has to be created from the data in the blend file. I think pgi has the data reading part for animation mostly done. Another nice thing would be correcting the coordinate system so y is up again.

I posted to blenderartists.org forum http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=204321 about blender importer improvements. I hope someone will help.

Thanks mate!

Two quick notes:

1 - We definitely have ambitions to participate in GSoC 2011, but this would be our first time participating.

2 - jME3 is OpenGL 2-3. OGL1 is currently not supported, and might never be.

All in all you presented us very well  I’ll drop by the thread later myself.

@erlend_sh What did Carol Smith told you about out proposal this year? Did she specified any reason that deprecated jME.
