Attack of the Gelatinous Blob launches a Kickstarter!

Hey Monkeys!

Been real busy the last two months getting things ready, but finally we have launched a Kickstarter! (yay it’s finally available in Canada).
Please let your friends know about it! And help back us!

Oh and there is a demo on the page too.

Thanks to all the monkeys out there for making a great engine!

Good luck

Thanks =)

The video was awesome… now I just need to get un-broke… so I can help make you un-broke too.

Being un-broke. That is the dream! =)

I had already planned to buy this even before the kickstarter… so backing was an easy decision. I think the tone, the marketing posters, etc… hit just right. Plus it has been fun watching it evolve.

Thanks Paul, that means a lot!

I printed off some big posters too. They definitely improve the decor of my office. =)

/me looks around at book shelves and white boards and wonders at the idea of “hanging posters in his office”.

By the way, there is a site called spreadshirt that lets you setup your own t-shirt store with your own t-shirts and merchandise. The mark-up is quite high and so far only one other person other than myself has bought any t-shirts… (well maybe not so high… but still)

I think it’s kind of neat.

I’ve been meaning to look if there is a similar thing for posters because I would love to let users buy posters without having to handle all of the sales/shipping crap myself. Maybe you or some other monkey already knows of such a thing.

@pspeed hehe spreadshirt. Good name =)
If the site handles all the shipping then that is worth the cost they charge. Especially if you aren’t using it as a source of income. Sometimes people just want the item to have it, and they might as well be able to get it hassle free without interrupting your time which can obviously be spent on more pressing issues, like the game itself.

Exactly. And truthfully, one of the reasons my shirt’s cost so much is because I “licensed” the logos and stuff for enough that I get some reasonable money per shirt… and others can then use the designs in their own stuff and I get a kickback.

It’s a good deal, really.

If someone knows of a similar service for posters and stickers and stuff, I’d love to know about it.

i checked out the video it certainly looks like you’ve done a good job with it. Wish it wasn’t windows only as im on linux though :frowning:

Here ya go: http://attackofthegelatinousblob.com/dev/demo/aotgBlob-x64.tar.gz
Give it a try and let me know if it works. I tested it on a couple ubuntu machines and it seemed happy.

@Sploreg glad to see a linux version

Unfortunately it didnt work for me, upon starting the game I got this error"SEVERE: Failed to create display
java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to find fullscreen display mode matching settings". I’m guessing because the game might be trying to start in 1280x720 fullscreen or something, but my laptop doesnt have that display mode, its native resolution is 1366x768.

You should probably use GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment().getDefaultScreenDevice().getDisplayModes(); to get a list of resolutions that the computer can do fullscreen

(i tried to set the values manually is the generated userPref file, but i think your program isnt using that on the startup).

I might try on my deskop later which probably has whatever resolution youre using. your game looks cool

ok cool, thanks for trying it.
Yea it has just a default resolution right now. I will add in some testing and an appropriate default for the next release. All these little things that slipped off my todo list and are rearing their ugly heads now =)

Take a look at the standard settings window jme provides, it has all the functionality in it. You can skin it a tiny bit or just use it to write your own.

I wanted to avoid that window that pops up at the start. It bugs me for some reason.

The resolution fix is in. I’m going to build and deploy tonight and will let you know when it is ready.
