It depends. You can use kicks/punches etcā€¦ just not too much (for example : cutting of heads or body parts etcā€¦). When you are making your game, ask yourself; if I create this game, will it be playable by children?

@memonick, you havenā€™t met @wezruleā€¦ heā€™d of course say yes to that question!

In factā€¦ he already has

That was for @mcbeth. Who gives a hoot about wezrule? :stuck_out_tongue:

well ok then...thanks
  1. One entry per author.

Does this mean that no teams are allowed?

Teams are allowed. However, one team can only make one game. The author means the developer - whether it is one person or more. Hope that clears some things.

Thank you for your quick answer.

Just curious if I can open this up to my students using env3d (which is based on jME3)?

Youā€™ll have to wait for an answer from @sbook for that. As it is not jME3 itself, I canā€™t decide without the Core Team accepting/denying it.

By all means, please bring invite into the fold.. the more the merrier! I think it would be great for students to see how close they are to a real life engine and there's no reason why games created in Env3D wouldn't be just as eligible as those created with Eclipse or IntelliJ :)

P.S: Sorry it took so long to respond

Cool, I love competitions! Remember in former times when I tried to organize the jmeweek#1  http://thomas.trocha.com/wp/?p=366

Love to see that already a bunch of people are on fire

Maybe I should give it a try with a mmorpgwhateverIneverfinish-game

Ah @ttrocha I just nostalgiaā€™d hard  I very much remember that contestā€¦ at least it had entries! The one we tried after had none

Hello all,

Have a few questions:

  1. Do I have to sign up and create a thread right away if I want to participate, or I can do it later?

(I ask this because Iā€™m still learning Java and jME, and most probably Iā€™ll never finish the game on time, not even with +2months on it :frowning: )

  2. ā€œThe game must be a new one and freeware.ā€ ā†’ As some have pointed their games are based on other games. If Iā€™d decide to make a 3d version of ā€œArcade HeadVolleyā€

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KO7Wpv3y-5E

3. " The game may not connect to the Internet without asking permission of the user." The game would be online/network only. Would a warning right at the beginning of the game (with accept/refuse button) acceptable?

Cheers monkeys,
Marco

To numbers 1 and 3, yes thatā€™s fine. Work in progress threads are needed though, so when you get started be sure to make one. Itā€™s helpful for bot only the judges but also for yourself as the creative and technical feedback can be invaluable

And yes, remakes of other games are ok but youā€™d need to put your own spin on it in some fashion!

Thanks for the reply.
"so when you get started be sure to make one", what if I have already started? I mean, I don't have a structural core but I'm trying to put it to work so I'll now to do it when I'll think about the full design later. I just have done a simple server->client network of the ball (locahost only).

Regards,
Marco

Awesome! I will let them know.

@half, put it up when you want to. However, donā€™t leave it until too late.

Spend a week in Fiji only to come home to find I missed the start of the contest :frowning: ā€¦ but never fear, 14 hours of transit and brainstorming/planning I hope to give it a crack, so my question:

I was hoping to build a tropical underwater themed game, however I was concerened my pervious work on the reef may make this theme inlelgiable to me since I have touched on it before (ā€˜new gameā€™ and all). Iā€™m not looking to reuse code or assets, just the theme and visual similarities would be unavoidableā€¦ so I was after a judges ruling if itā€™s allowed, before I ā€¦ dive in (sorry)

Thanks

James
