Your general location: Vancouver, Canada

Work in Progress thread: http://hub.jmonkeyengine.org/groups/beta-1-game-contest/forum/topic/wip-zombie-hunter-contest-entry/

Your one sentence description of the game: Hunt zombies with your math skills.

A short blurb about the game and its features: The world has been over-run by zombies! Luckily, you are a mutant who is immune to zombie virus, and it’s up to you to take out these wondering monsters with your shotgun and machete. You’ll need sharp reflexes and excellent math skills to survive. Good luck!

Find a way to move the ball out of the labyrinth by tilting the floor. Can you do it in less than one minute?

Features:

  • Correct working, robust and realistic physics
  • Low hardware requirements (GL1) to make it run on most devices
  • Multiple application types (Applet, Webstart, Desktop)
  • A nifty GUI
  • Display settings to switch resolution and display type (Fullscreen, Window, Desktop)
  • Sound settings to toggle sound on/off and adjust music and soundfx volume
  • Main and credits theme (soundtrack) by a buddy (Maik)
  • Soundfx by freesound.org

    — Different sounds for ball hits wall and ball hits floor

    — Sound volume based on physics impulse

I put a special focus on the settings and usability because I myself am often annoyed by commercial games for example not implementing a desktop or fullscreen window mode and crashing while alt-tabbing to i.e. the web browser and back.

Name of game: Kinetrax

Genre: Rhythm Game

Author: Glauco Márdano

Location: Brazil

WIP Thread: http://hub.jmonkeyengine.org/groups/beta-1-game-contest/forum/topic/wip-rhythm-game-contest-entry/

Let the rhythm that’s inside you get loose and eliminate some fat calories that bother you ;)! You are the controller!!!

Download links :

Features:

-The gameplay work both with keyboard and kinect. To enable the Kinect, go to options and check the “enable kinect” option and restart the game. Kinect install instructions can be found here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/35145364/README.TXT.

-The Game have a Sound Editor (like in Frets on Fire) that allows the player editing the music actions.

-The Game just have one sound yet :P.

-The musics can be paused, skipped backward and skipped forward :D.

-The Game doesn’t have any 3D models yet. I’ll be adding a 3D character as soon, where the player will have to mirror his movements. Also plan to add some background effects with particle emitters like in any rhythm game.

-For the kinect interaction, at moment it supports “swipe_up”, “swipe_down”, “swipe_left”, “swipe_right”, “push” and “wave”. But I plan to add a lot of awesome gestures as soon  like in FAAST.

EDIT: About the framerate, it’s because I ran the game on linux xD. On my windows, it run much more faster! My linux have a poor gc driver.

Nice to see a decent number of exciting games that will make the competition interesting

@ndebruyn Great to see someone else from South Africa, that even made a cool game for the competition.

To all those that don’t know- South Africa is a country… it’s not just the south of Africa.

i was born in South Africa  (Durban), good games guys, @glaucomardano, it crashes for me on windows, when trying to play. I get to the main menu, click start then it crashes:(

Oh no! It never crashes on my pc. Could you show the strack trace so I can take a look at it?

I live in Durban, I have for 17 years. And i’m 17 years old

i lived there for 2.5 years  then moved to the UK.

and how do i get the stack trace from a .exe ? normally i just run it in command line and see it

Hmmm. Yeah you’re right. It didn’t work on my windows too :/. It’s a NPE. Both the .exe and .jar crashes on windows. Just a moment, I’ll fix that!

Show us what you’ve got :stuck_out_tongue:

Haha, yes south africa is an awesome place to live and really beautiful.

I was born in pretoria and now I live close by.

Man, there is quite a variaty of games entered. I can not wait to see the results.

I’ll start reviewing tomorrow, and will finish Monday PM.

@memonick: I don’t know where is the log on windows  and the shit cmd doesn’t let me copy the log. Then I took a screen shot xD :

It says it’s a NPE at the line 52 of my TrackSelectScreenControl.java. Btw it works fine on my ubuntu, without any exceptions. If someone could test it on MACOSX I will appreciate. I’ll try to figure it out.
