Blood Splatters / Texture Splatting

I’m curious how to “splat” textures onto a surface. I know the terrain code does it, but after a look at it, I really don’t understand it too well. Can someone explain to me how I can achieve this affect?

Thanks, I looked at them both, look really nice. What’s the difference between the two, which one has better performance?
