FPS Node affected by particle mesh

If I run TestParticleSystem the fps text is colored funnily like a particle… this is not a feature, I guess (happens in other apps using particles, too). Does anyone have a clue, what might be causing this? Some gl state, I guess, but how is it reset?

Hmm, well the problem is that there just  so many ways OpenGL's current color can be changed that perhaps it is more efficient to just go ahead and call the glColor call than do all of the float comparisons and tracking for this particular element.  I'm going to go ahead and switch tracking of that off.
