FX Visual Designer: The Drama Thread - You don't want to miss this

@normen said: You don't listen to me anyway :P

I listen to anyone who has a valid point… so have at it! The problem is, I don’t think anyone else was aware of the PM’s between me and zarch.

I have a son who is very sick… he takes precedence over everything else. I had to shelve this for 2 weeks due to a trip to take him to a specialist. When I got back, I learned that the source I had shared with nehon to look over had been given to someone else and that someone else told me to go F myself when I told him the source code was VERY incomplete and was not supposed to be shared with anyone else. When I asked that he please not use it, he told me that he was "tired of waiting on me… and he was going to SHARE IT WITH THE WORLD! dun dun duuuuun.

Which part of this are you ok with?

Because personally, I’m not cool with any of it.

@t0neg0d said: Not sure I understand what your asking for...

If you need the output saved as a j3o, simply cut & paste the code into a project, add the controls to a node and save the node… Savable is supported by the emitter.

Otherwise, everything needed to write an SDK editor is available through the API. The sources for FX Builder will be available as well and should have everything you need to quickly port it over, but I think you’ll find the builder easier to use.

So I run AppState with scene to save particles from your system? Why editor make code, is not visual editor?

I heard you story of pain, suffering and IP theft a few times over now, its getting more refined though. This time you forgot to mention how we all conspired against you, its a nice detail, you should keep it.

Can we focus on cheering up tonygod to release the editor and discussing merits of code generation versus jm3o format versus restoring editor state from custom xml and separate gui versus jme3 SDK plugin? You know, constructive things?

Hmmm …how about derail fail! Like the soup nazi says… No source for you.

Hey! Why the fuck would do that when we can belittle contributors!

EDIT: Ooooo… I’ll show her! I’ll just keep clicking the thumbs down icon and really let her know who’s in charge around here. @normen , you’re a tool… go do something useful for a change.

Each time you talk BS I thumb you down, like anyone who talks BS, I don’t even have to get personal for that or hide behind the thumb downs.

This is a bit revisionist, though. You posted the code publicly so that we could look at it because it was headed for core at that time.

Anyone who wants to form an opinion on this may want to go back and read the original thread where the collaboration was being done:
http://hub.jmonkeyengine.org/forum/topic/first-look-at-a-new-influencer-based-particleemitter-candidate/

It is a prime example of open source working right, to me.

Here is the post that had the link to the repository: http://hub.jmonkeyengine.org/forum/topic/first-look-at-a-new-influencer-based-particleemitter-candidate/page/10/#post-210848

…it has since been either removed or made private. The repo link doesn’t work anymore at any rate.

There are a bunch of code review posts after that where it’s already clear that nehon and zarch have looked at the code because they provided feedback.

April 18th/19th or so was when traffic stopped. zarch followed up a month later because he wasn’t able to get the code to run:
http://hub.jmonkeyengine.org/forum/topic/first-look-at-a-new-influencer-based-particleemitter-candidate/page/18/#post-214311

In the process of attempting to use it he had lots of reservations about how it was done… so he rewrote most (all?) of the core classes using many of his own particular idioms. He tried to keep the influencers that he could so that your effort wasn’t wasted. See, he had been burned by momoko_fan already in a similar way by having his work on ImageRaster completely undone. So he was sensitive to replacing other peoples work.

zarch ended up releasing his another month later. http://hub.jmonkeyengine.org/forum/topic/new-particle-library-plugin-coming-soon/

…as I recall you were in a horrible accident which is why you were gone for so long.

@pspeed
I was in an accident…about 6 months after this. Thanks for remembering, though! Though, I don’t think you were remembering this to be kind.

As for the rest of the post, He had the code, he used the code and I’m sure the particle system will sit stagnant, as I forgot to add ingenuity and original thought to the code I posted.

Hey, I learned my lesson… thus not sharing the source now.

Everyone had the code. It was posted publicly with an open source license. We all collaborated up to that point.

…and still he wrote his own code. You have never actually shown what was copied and now none of us can see.

Maybe you should go back through that thread and remove all of our suggestions… to be fair.

This was from about two weeks (10 days or so) before zarch released his rewritten library:

Well… I’ll probably do just that, because we’re all about fairness here! Is this going somewhere? How about this…

You all are right! I am sooooo wrong. Thanks for pointing out all the errors of my ways!

Now, if you have nothing to contribute to what the thread is about, would you mind too terribly much not participating? If this is too much for you, I understand… And, I’ll step out so you can continue. Far be it from me to stand in your way of internet argument vindication.

However, no matter what shit you guys continue to spew on the subject… the emitter system fucking rocks… the editor is simply bad-ass and I let it speak for itself.

Correction: YOU “continued to spew shit on the subject”

Lordy… I’m caught! You have won the arguement!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! Don’t forget to talk to Vanna about your parting gifts.

Which according to you, was about a month after the “absence” of mine… thanks for pointing out my descrepincy in timelines… 1 month, 6 months… whats the fucking difference at that point?

Yes, it does rock.

This thread would have quietly glowed with awesome if not for all of the sideways jabs. Each time the story gets retold it gets a little more inaccurate… so I thought it a good idea to provide links to the actual history that was still available. Since the facts speak for themselves when verbal history has been revised. People can go back and read those threads for themselves if they want to form an opinion.

…and now still JME has no improved particle emitter in core.

Seriously, is anyone else seeing this? Are the core devs here actually attacking me in a thread that had nothing to do with them?

It is starting to feel like “We WILL derail this thread at all costs”, does it not?

Well, when you retell a story and change things around to make it sound better on your end… don’t you think it’s worthwhile to provide the other side of the story?

You were gone for really good reasons. I’m glad you’re better now. At the time we had no idea when you’d be back. It sounded awful and it was easy to imagine you gone for months and months. So zarch wrote entirely new code based on ideas discussed in that collaborative thread. This is exactly why his is more limited than yours and has an entirely different set of bugs or whatever.

Well, it’s tough to standby and watch the sideways accusations. We say nothing then people assume it’s true. We say something and now we’re beating you up.

I tried really hard just to stick to the public facts and even that wasn’t good enough. Normen probably should have stayed quiet. The rest of us were trying really hard to ignore all of the jabs.

But I couldn’t let the inaccuracies in your responses stand without challenge.

Yep, nobody from the core team commented on your stuff until you started to put out your lies about “people stealing code” here again. Now you’re all the way down in the mud again, calling me names and whatnot. You wouldn’t have to get so agitated if you had actual code to show that proves that anything was “stolen” at all. I bet you still didn’t look at the code just to keep telling yourself that.
