but on a second thought it doesn’t look that wrong after all. at the moment I don’t think I would want to change this

Early tests are promising that this work-around has fixed my issues.
The popup staying should be ok for me and may even be useful at some point, although ideally it shouldn't matter what screen I'm on when I close it. If I call nifty to close the popup then it should go.
