How to make a black/red flash?

Hi,



is it possible to make the whole screen in front of the player turn red or black, so that the player is blind for a moment?

for example i want a red flash when the player gets hit by a bullet.

Is this possible and how can i make it?

draw a fullscreen quad in ortho mode?  You can even fade out the opacity over time to restore their site.
