How to make edge of model glow

I am trying to make the discs glow once they've been clicked on (see screenshot).  At first I tried to use a bloom render pass, but that didn't seem to work how I wanted it to (perhaps I needed more than a single pointlight above my board?).  I was wondering what is the easiest way to create the edge glow effect I am looking for, and to have it affect ONLY the disc model I choose.



If you could post a little piece of sample code with your responses just so I can see how it works that'd be great (how to initialize whatever the solution is and what parameters to set).
