yup, seems 1 out of every 15 posts I help i get +1 thumbs up. And then i get like +5 when i say something stupid, it’s retarded. You get a higher rating trolling this site and posting updates to your projects, than helping people. I’m a ratings whore addict and i need my fix, time to troll

If I remeber well, yesterday you had "43" rating, today you have "47", it means you got "+4" in a day. Ungrateful :evil:. And sincerely I think you created 2 logins only to auto-thumbs up.

That was because everyone thumbed up me who thumbed down me for no reason the day before, it went 46 - 43 - 46, yes im ungrateful for reaching same level i was originally.

@Addez you’re probably reading more negatively into this than what was intended, though your reaction is understandable. Normen and Kirill (Momoko_Fan) know each other pretty well, so they can send pretty disturbing messages to one another without crossing the line. A public forum probably was never an ideal place for religious satire.
I only close threads if I really have to, so I’ll give this… --whatever it is a chance to sort itself out.
@wezrule I have mixed feelings about rating systems. They’re never perfect. You can’t think of it as a measure of skill or amount of contribution. At the end of the day it’s just a way of saying “thanks!”, “good job!” or “well said” without going through the trouble of posting a new reply just to say that. I find that new users respond very well to their first couple of +1’s, and the same can be said for the rare -1. Once you get into double digits (and 4chan style threads) you start to realize the system isn’t perfect, but hopefully you’ll still have fond memories of your first thumbs up
Once we move to bbPress 2 we’ll probably have a different rating system which could ignore general posts like this, and might also differentiate between support posts & contribution posts.

In continuation of what Erlend was saying about the reputation system in general, Overclock.net employs a similar system to great effect. There are strict rules about beging for rep points and things like that which makes it more on the up and up I suppose. Then again, its got the chance to make the whole thing a bit too serious.
For a site of developers this might be a bit different since we typically don’t get topics that are just “ZOMG PC is better than Mac” and “AMD 4 LYFE”, but things more related to specific topics (i.e: more pointed answers that can actually be considered helpful or unhelpful)
