(March 2017) Monthly WIP screenshot thread

I’m writing my tutorials this month.

It’s hard but interesting to do such work.

I tried many ways to make students understand the relationship of mesh and material

Mesh

Material

Also I tried to make it more straightforward to view.

Hope I can finish this tutorial before June.

It’s so rare that I get to work on things multiple nights in a row… so sorry for spamming. But I have a download link now for the curious… keep reading.

First, I added post-processing. A little shadows and SSAO goes a long way.

I also quickly added an unoptimized export to j3o option… so I was able to load the castle into the game sandbox:

Lighting is all messed up in that app… but Jaime now has some castles to play in.

Finally, I uploaded an early release with all of the above features:

You can pronounce it block… ed… as in rhymes with block-head if you like… or “blocked” as in “stopping someone from doing something”. I think both are funny.

There is extremely basic in-app help… just press F1.

The “file dialogs” are extremely basic. You can select the file name but not the directory and so on.

It’s just the minimum that I needed to support my kids’ game stuff.

I’ve been getting really bored working on my game using the same background images day in day out, so I finally gave them some life with sounds, particles, animations for the backgrounds and 3d props in the scene (the security door at the back is real time not part of the background.

New state reached for the material:

  • lightprobe usage
  • metallic and roughness uniform for each layer + blending of 'em.
