MD5 Exporter Problems

I know, it's not directly related to jME.

My problem is, that I can't successfull creat a MD5 file (md5mesh, md5anim)

First I tried with Maya and the exporter on this side. Got some results, but nothing usefull. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, models are fragmented and and and…so not my choice.

Now I tried 3D Studio Max, because there are more MD5 exporter outside. I did the tutorial on this side.

Didn't work.  :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :?

Here is the max file (if anyone need an fbx file, say so):

Can someone try to use his exporter and tell me, what I'm doing wrong?

It would be really important, because without animation, I can't finish my project

One other question about texture? Inside the tutorial you have to create a UVW, what is…not wanted…because I have already fixed and created the UVs with BodyPaint. Mesh and texture is fitting perfect, if left alone.

I could not open with 3DsMax8 neither 3DsMax7.

Not sure about Max or Maya but I have been using DerTon's MD5 exporter for blender : http://www.doom3world.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1711 with no problems, and then using neekor's MD5 importer to import.  So, if you are familiar with blender then you might want to try this.  I have been able to get it to work with new blender versions since this was released (2.47 is the latest i am using).

jep, i have to agree with Anubis.

"Der_Ton's" Exporter is working fine with blender and the MD5Importer. I'm using Blender version 2.48.

And i have used Der_Ton's Exporter from 3DSMax successfully as well, some time ago.

Ok, I will give Der_Ton's Exporter a shot.

The problem with blender is, that I don't have any experience with it. Blender should be able to read fbx, right?

Sorry, you could not open it, because I used 3D Studio Max 2009. My version is higher than yours.

I should have known it, that fbx is better choice

blender's fbx importer is not fully functional afaik

haven't used max seriously in years, but can u briefly describe how your model is configured i.e.
bones and skin - fully supported, must be exported with a single root/origin bone preferable at the "feet" of your model
biped and skin - supported kinda, must add bone, name it origin, parent bip center to it
biped and physique -  not supported last I knew.

edit: .x might an intermediate between max and blender not sure though

Might want to try collada too as intermediate, it works well for blender, not really sure about max.

Der_Ton's Exporter works!!!

Could not say how happy I am!!!

Well, the Essence Editor shows the mesh wrong as long as I don't add any animation file.

Don't know, if it's a error of the exporter or the editor. Never mind :stuck_out_tongue:

As long it work inside jME

Im happy  so happy!!! lala

About max, keep in mind that all of the "working" exporters seem to be made for older versions. When I was exporting md5 I had to add skin modifier onto object (and only it, which means I had to collapse entire stack into editable poly/mesh) and it had to have at least one bone in it (zero bones caused problems too).
