MonkeyWorld3d Problems

I downloaded MonkeyWorld3D to use as a world editor. I opened it and made a project with a .JME file. I then opened the .JME file and it said that is was running at 60 FPS and just fine. So I tried rotating the screen with the left mouse button. Nothing happened, and when I added an object nothing happened. I couldn't get it to rotate or anything. After clicking and messing with it for a while it worked, but only for a second, and it kept working like that, kind of glitchy and buggy with the editor. Everything else was running fine, and my computer has more then enough power to run it. Does anyone know what the problem is?

To move the camera, you have to use the right mouse button. Left button is for selecting. Try to use the dolly camera handler (go to preferences and then MonkeyWorld3D/Camera)

The MW3D team is working on improving the usability side… so you can be sure it will become more intuitive in the future.

Thanks for your confidence. Its true, we are working on that, and yes, we really need to. So your feedback is very welcome!

Does anyone know what the problem is?

You're using vista?

Yeah, i got the same problem… and yup, using vista

Well I am using vista and have this issue. I know of only 1 person that has vista but doesn't have this issue… Maybe service pack 1 fixes it?

Yep, I'm using Vista. I think I know the problem.

Vista issue? Hm…none of us has Vista, but yes, i can remember, when i showed MW3D to a colleague in the office, using Vista, i saw this terrible performance. But there the latest updates and such were applied, also SP1, so this probably won't help.

The one person that hadn't the problem under Vista, what was the difference with his machine?

Maybe give a non-aero vs aero a shot,  I know aero can really suck down some performance and it may actually be crippling the V-card before monkeyworld can even run.

This might help. I was noticing some performance drawback and even crashes with the jME 2 under linux when compiz is running. This 3D desktops may be the cause for problems here, also i won't call aero really a 3D desktop

LoL, I don't think I would call aero a 3D desktop either, I am just wondering if its not utilizing a large majority of the RAM/VRAM and causing problems for MW3D that way…

I have Vista Basic (no aero) and I have this issue.

You think its a plan, to prevent world domination of MW3D? ;)

Maybe this problem is gone, after switching to jME 2. For that we use the monklypse project (http://code.google.com/p/monklypse/) and this will be used in a Vista environment very soon, so we will see, if there are issues, and if, we'll fix them. For the MW3D 4.1 we can't do much about it. And no, i won't install Vista for fixing that bug :P

Lol, I hope you guys get it working on Vista before I finish learning how to use jME 2 and jME Physics 2 and am ready to start my project. I may have to dual boot another OS if not.

The performance problem on Vista seems to be a known issue of LWGL in jME 1, so with jME 2 this will be gone.

I had heard that many of the graphics card venders did not have good opengl implementations for vista yet, but that was last year.  That was one of the reasons why I stuck with XP when I purchased my new system last December  :D
