Multi-Media Asset Pipeline

I just read the article about the asse pipeline.
This sentence irritated me:

Don’t use multiple separate texture files with one model, it will break the model into several meshes.

I guess the text means multiple texture files of the same kind?
Or must I also combine diffuse, normal, spec maps into one image file?

You are correct about one of each kind =)

Normal and specular maps are supposed to be different images. Original sentence is about using multiple diffuse textures for same mesh as far as I know.
