Note: my in-house linux tester (my older child) has not had a chance to test the Linux exe version yet so let me know if anyone discovers problems with it before that happens.

I gave it a try. I played singleplayer and got spawned in the middle of the desert, which was not a great experience.

I eventually did escape that, and actually the game looks really nice!

I’m going to pretend I don’t know what that is.

The only NPC I was able to find. She gave me a quest to recover an axe “1 km” from town. I think the map accidentally says “km” instead of “m” on the measuring tool because it was 1000 km outside town.

Mountain climbing is actually pretty fun in this game.

Found a random stone that doesn’t look anything like a skull.

The towns look very nice, but very empty. I hope a lot more NPCs will be added!

I also built an underground hideout, which I unfortunately failed to get a screenshot of. I really liked being able to add props with blueprints (especially doors).

Really enjoyed the game and it looks super nice (except for the desert). Can’t wait to see the final product! :+1:

It’s funny because I searched a long time to find a proper desert world for testing and you found one by accident on your first try.

Starting on a world that spawns into a desert is going to be even “less fun” (more challenging) someday as desert survival will be tough. If you generated a preview during world creation there might have been some indication (not an obvious one) that you were starting in a desert. Deserts and ice sheets show up as yellow and blue, respectively.

I think the proper deserts are beautiful in their own way… especially at dawn/dusk. And it is a lot easier to spot points of interest.

Thanks for the kind words and I’m glad you had fun.

I got curious so I put in your world seed to try it out. It’s true there wasn’t much indication that you’d start in a desert… just a teeny bit of yellow nearby.

It’s pretty neat because it starts you in a cold desert… so kind of just a wasteland.

I find these vistas pretty… even if they are barren wastelands. I admit that it will be rough to play a world like this.

I expect the mountains to be cold anyway… but this is also super dry and not at all fertile. So cold enough to have snow but not enough moisture to produce snow. The stone mountain (no snow) but occasional pine tree was a decent indicator but I was curious enough to check myself.

Even down at lower elevations it’s pretty cold:

(This was the first POI I came to east of spawn… looking back towards the spawn tower.)
