That's so true! In my company i have introduced a pattern for commit messages. We use "Bug ####", and TortoiseSVN supports this very well, so one does not forget to enter an issue number. This has several advantages:
1. Every commit must have an issue number
2. Merges can be audited
But it would be ok to use the thread number too, like "Thread ####"
So everybody knows, what this commit refers to.
