Nord

For the last few months, me and a few other guys have been working on our first PC-title. The result, which is slowly but surely approaching the beta phase, is the game Nord. It uses both jME and JGN, so a big thanks to all of the devs and the community for all of the help the platforms have provided us with!

The webpage does not contain a lot of content yet, but there are a few screenshots. If anyone is interested in helping out with beta testing some time in the future, send me a pm. At first, we will try to launch the game in the Nordic region (we are situated in Sweden), but other countries will follow.

Check the site out at http://www.nordgame.com/!

wow! - that looks pretty sweet. Looking forward to the beta!

Looking very nice.

Can't wait to play it.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly df.

Gorgeous graphics and HUD

What fps ranges are you getting at the mo on what spec machine

Looks pretty impressive. Looking forward to playing it like the rest…

bless you!

XD

Thanks for the nice comments! I'll let you know as soon as we have anything playable.

theprism: At the moment I get 40-50fps on an Athlon64 3200 with a Geforce 6200 with normal maps, shadow maps and the projected water turned on when running on Ubuntu. Turning off the shadows or the water boosts performance significantly. For some strange reason the fps is ~10fps lower on Windows though. I expected the opposite (I'm guessing that Windows drivers are a lot more optimized than Linux drivers).

Wow, really impressive graphics. I wish I could do something like that. I hope I can play this some day.

When do you plan to add some gameplay information to the webpage?

When do you plan to add some gameplay information to the webpage?

We will add more information very soon along with user accounts and forums. Stay tuned!

In general, the game is as much of a social community as it is a game. It sort of resembles a combination between MySpace and The Sims/Sim City. Players can upload images of themselves, their dog, their cat or whatever they want and place those pictures on buildings in their villages. They can also visit other people's villages, write in each others guestbooks and things like that. The game itself is about building a village in which your villagers are happy and where they want to settle down and build families.

We received a grant from the Nordic ministry council which was specifically targeted for games that are suitable for kids and younger adults, so the game is very family friendly and non-violent. The guys who do the graphics constantly complain about not being allowed to draw stuff with blood on it, but they keep on handing me quality material nonetheless. :P

How are you controlling what images the user uploads?  Do you plan to screen them manually?  If you don't control that pretty carefully you'll get a house with a "less than kid friendly" picture on it within your first day of public play.

Pwitty!

I'm sure everyone would love some screenies to be added to the user showcase on the jME homepage.  If you don't mind talk to Mojo I guess.

We screen them manually and do not allow pictures that have not been verified to be placed within the game. It will not be the most exciting job in the world, but we charge micro-payments (via premium SMS initially) for the buildings where user content can be placed, so hopefully it will be worth it.

We won't mind at all!

Looks great, seems like it has a ton of style. I'll get some screenshots up on the main page soon.

Finally added this to the screenshots page… I never said I was fast. :stuck_out_tongue:

Cool! Thanks!
