I did take some time to think about how many stars. Im not against reducing it to 5. If people prefer it, I’m happy to do so.

In regard to mobile, it’s something I’m working toward - it mostly works - but there are still a few areas here and there. I do have a list of things that still need doing, but I’ll prioritize the ones that people notice, such as this.

I’m no pro artist either, but I could give that a shot if you’d like.

Sounds good, just be aware that color schemes are bait for discussion. I understand if you don’t need the hassle and tediosity.

Yep, we’ll figure it out as a group, maybe someone will turn up with a better idea or mockup. If it turns out to be more trouble than I imagine I’ll report back so you/others know not to wait on anything. This will be a “style proposal”.

Okay, here’s a rough draft to see how it looks (may have to click on it for a big version, Imgur preview seems to want to cut the top off).

There are some other more subtle things I think should be tweaked a bit (for example the text on the asset photos could use a black background behind the text only, so the text is more readable), but those can be discussed later.

I also feel like we could use something like a “top categories” or other navigation bar somewhere, either near the top of just below the “3d” featured section. Will have to think about that a little.

Reducing the number of stars to 5 should help polish things up a bit too.

I’ve been waiting for a jMon Keystore for a long time. lol.

…don’t know why I read it that way the first time.

Good job, though.

Accounts have started to be given out to patreon sponsors. Sorry for the delay. Create stuff. Mess around. Robots have been denied for now so it’s not being indexed. Do as you wish.

Man I spent hours trying to find the right domain name. I liked jmestore dot com but it’s already registered under some japanese company (i guess japanese market e-store JM E-Store). I don’t like hyphens in domains, so I couldn’t choose jme-store.com either. I could have gone for loads of different ones. I couldn’t set up the email service until I had a domain, though, it was holding me back so i just went with the one I have so I could keep moving forward.

It would have been nice to have a poll, but someone might have purchased it. It’s stuck now :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s fine. For some reason, my eye gravitated to keystore.com before reading the rest and it was already sunk in my brain.

I remember being behind a truck with “atlastankanddrain.com” on the back. Took me far too long for comfort to parse that out. Never mind that in my haste, I’d also flipped the last ai into ia.

Since domain names are not case sensitive, I recommend writing it out with capitalization maybe. Would have certainly cleared up AtlasTankAndDrain… and is probably a little clearer for jMonkeyStore.

I dont know what to do about the theme coloring. We could argue forever. Lets just make a poll.

  • Dark Theme

I’ve ajaxified the main page and fixed up some areas, added some cache control, etc., and am in the process of doing the rest. My router decided to take a dump, so I’m stuck right now. This is the best result I’ve had over the past few days.

It’s taking over 20 minutes to upload the 75mb jar every time i change it. Not cool.

I bypassed the router and get a full 50mbit connection, which is great for me, but the rest of the family wasn’t impressed with no wifi, so I’ve ordered a new router which should come tomorrow and I can finally upload the changes at a tolerable speed.

Regarding the dark theme - it seems to have dominated the result, so I guess I’ll start on that too.

I’d appreciate it if those with accounts could make some assets to test out that workflow. Give some reviews, too, if you wouldn’t mind. The database will be wiped periodically and bots have been denied access (so it won’t appear on google, etc). I’d appreciate some feedback on that area too.

This is looking great so far, here’s some feedback:

  1. Your repository must be hosted on either github or bitbucket.

Any issue with opening up repositories to GitLab also?

  1. Probably not needed unless others agree, but you might consider putting an additional “Create New Asset” link somewhere on the main page (if logged in). It’s slightly buried in the “My Assets” area. I had no problem finding it but I’m not sure if that’s because I like combing through settings & configuration screens.

  2. Open Source vs Sponsored vs Paid - It’s fine to keep and you probably have a good reason, but I feel like maybe the Sponsored asset type isn’t necessary and could be combined with Open Source?

1 - No reason not to have gitlab. I’ll add it.

2 - Hmm. I’ll have a think about how to expose that more.

3 - My initial concern is that people shouldn’t be able to post other peoples work and earn money off it. Like I could fork tonegodgui and put it as sponsored - having contributed absolutely nothing to it. I think users should be able to post other peoples work (jme-ttf for example, etc) but not having it qualify for sponsorship. I don’t think it’s fair that somebody has the opportunity to fork 50 stale repos and earn money from them. In order to qualify for sponsorship from a fork, you must show that you have contributed enough to the project to warrant sponsorship. Maybe you “maintain” it now (and the PR’s will show that), done extensive documentation, fixed some known bugs, etc… If you’ve done nothing - you can only post it as “open source / public domain”.

I’ve made a Trello roadmap to make organization easier. I’ll also put a link to it on the footer of the website labeled “roadmap”: Trello

Roadmap looks good!

So far here’s some issues I’ve encountered, much of this wasn’t an issue initially so I’m sure it’s just normal dev WIP stuff, other than # 1.

  1. Can we be allowed to rename an asset?
  2. When editing an asset (Create Amendment), it creates one even if I change nothing and don’t save or submit the amendment. That might be intended but did catch me off guard until I figured out how to edit an existing amendment. I guess it “auto-saved”, but it shouldn’t be saved until someone actually clicks Save.
  3. The “JSolusOS” asset I added has the linux tag repeated twice - I’m pretty sure I didn’t do that intentionally. Not sure if that’s a bug from the initial add or the data got duplicated later due to WIP stuff.
  4. I guess you’ve been changing tags a little, but I was unable to add any tags when adding a new asset just now (before it worked fine).
  5. Unable to choose a license (both types) - clicking the dropdown didn’t do anything (this worked before, obviously). - this was when adding a new Asset.

License chooser - Wow! I haven’t messed around with it yet but that’s looking really nice! It’s so good we might try and think of some way to make it stand out more. I didn’t notice the link at first (you know how “people never read the text”, well, I did that).

I really like the asset creation and update workflow, how we can preview things, save unsubmitted assets, and only have them go live or get reviewed when they’re ready. It did take me a few seconds at first to realize how to “Save” the asset before I submitted, so we might want to think of a way to make the Save/Preview buttons be a little more obvious, but I’m not suggesting that the workflow should change there (no auto-save or anything like that).

Don’t forget to CTRL + F5 or CTRL + R because I’ve changed a lot. I set the cache too long previously. Its now set to 30 minutes, so you shouldnt have to do it again. That’s probably why some things dont work for you (tags, license)…

Oh yeah, that was it for #4 and #5. Working now.

Some more mobile quirks: is the huge horizontal spacing between elements (demonstrated on Highest rated, but it’s the case for all categories) on the homepage intentional? When I turn my phone around into landscape mode it looks fine.
