Thought I’d start a thread with pictures of things people are creating. Feel free to post your own… remember F2 takes a screen cap and F3 gets rid of the HUD so you can get a clean shot.

The above is Normen’s house with Remy’s relocated eiffel tower in the background at sunrise.
…going to post a map in a second.
The map... as generated by the map code yet to be included in the client. With text labels added in photoshop for now.
…and no… I cannot spell.

No need for fractal village generation algorithms, when you have an army of capable builder players!

True enough. :)
Wow…you DID relocate the Eiffel tower…nice job
hmm… i was just about to write my own mapper after working a few things out, until I saw this thread, that is. Good thing i didn’t start - yours looks much better than mine could ever be.
On another note, map this!
Oh my… did you make that or is it a natural occurring location that far near the edge of the universe?
it’s natural, look at the coordinates
Yeah, I knew it was in a very far place… just didn’t think the fractals would do that way out there. I wonder how far out they stay stable. Looking at that pic… when mineral deposits actually mean something… that place is a gold mine.
And note: I don’t know that I’ll structure my map maker into a utility or anything. It’s supposed to be for generating the in-game “local” (ie: surrounding square kilometer) map. It still might be fun to have different kinds of mapping or something like the minecraft isometric map builders that are out there. I’ll probably never get to something like that.

I think it's cool that it looks so much farther away than it is. My brain sees "Eiffel Tower" and assumes it's huge and far away.

I can test that if you want...

Heheh... you guys are going to crash the server every way you can think of. :)
Sure... I'd be curious even if only to know where to clamp the coordinates.
Notes (so far - up to 100000 in each direction):
- would be much easier to test with built-in functionality, rather than my hack-and-slash method
- has problems when at least one set of coordinates is negative
- lags rather badly when rendering at high negative coordinates
