Well, Ubuntu is more of Linux Windows than SuSE. And I am running even more lightweight environment than you - pure X Windows + X Term + Metacity for window decorations. Beat me on that one!
Ubuntu desktop (their server distribution is awesome) I'd agree with you, I think 50% of the desktop Linux portfolio has gone off the deep end with Gnome 3 and Unity :/
Xubuntu is in between Like server just with a xfce desktop running, and got rid of all stuff I dont need after installation . (Hey at least it let me -damn you IE and windows media player).
Ironically the ubunut starts eclipse(same plugins, workspace) faster that the windows with the ssd. Must be the intelligent ram caching and file system that really helps there.

If your on windows 7, you can find graphics information, by typing dxdiag into the search, and you can find processor info by right clicking on Computer -> Properties
2 remarks:
1 - dxdiag gives you processor info too
2 - I inserted "dxdiag" and then clicked shutdown lol. I felt miserably stoupid when the understanding sinked in.

I agree. Except that I personally love using Gentoo with Fluxbox as my desktop. All of my programs are hot keyed, and I usually run the OS on the command line. ;)
Ubuntu has gotten over-hyped, though. Anyone else agree?
