Hey,
Is there a small rectangular "Powered by jME"-icon?
I mentioned jME already in the credits of Grappling Hook, but I also would like to add a small icon.
I don't know of one, but that would be fun little exercise for those artists among us.
Do I hear contest?

I used the Jme Monkey head icon a while back to make up such an image. Doubt the sound with the accompanying video is free to use though (made it just for laughs).
A logo would be better than a video.
Perhaps something similar to the intel inside logo?

Rectengular, good to recognize (even when it is small), professional and not cheesy look …

Perhaps I should elaborate, the zip contains an image and a fun little video (a la demo of its intended use) of it with monkey sounds :D. Reminds me of the opening credits to some of the monkey island games ;)
As for a logo...don't we technically already have one? The monkey face? (which is what the image in the zip is, but on a convenient black background + with "powered by jmonkeyengine")
I don't plan to show the monkeyhead on the whole screen.
And I think the name "jMonkeyEngine" should be always part of the logo, because the engine is not so famous, that everyone will associate the monkeyhead with the engine.
…imho the logo "powered by jMonkeyEngine" is quite fine…
The vid is… hm… i dunno… funny.
The monkeysounds are a bit too long in my opinion.
I added "Powered by jMonkeyEngine" to the launcher of Grappling Hook.
That
I'll take my hand at making one… anyone know what the font is called for the site's header graphic? I'm not so sure something that heavy would translate well to a small icon, but it's worth a shot
a nice logo would be cool, i'm sure there are a few artists here who can make a nice logo which fits the jme website style.
Here's a start, based highly on the website's header, which I, myself, see as the "tone" of the site… Now if only I could find that font
What phrase would we want in there? (Sorry I'm not writing my "A" material :p)
- "jME Inside"
- "Powered by jMonkeyEngine"
- "Runs on Banana Peels"
I vote for “Powered by jMonkeyEngine”.
Black border with round edges would be nice probably.
And some line which seperates the head and text, so they don’t have to share the same background.
I think we should look first at some other great logos and use them as inspiration:
had this idea a while back pictured an animated parody of though
Oh dude, that…, is…, brilliant! I love it. ‘Ars gratia artis’ means art for art’s sake. Would be just awesome if we could come up with a java/code version of that. Feel free to try for the English one first, then we’ll have a knack at the latin translation ^^ There might be a few around with some basic education in it, I sure would have had it if the opportunity was there…
Keep in mind the difference between the ‘launcher opening screen’ (e.g. Nvidia’s fancy sound and particles) and the simple ‘powered by’ button at the bottom of a page, examples for which include Joomla, Drupal and Java.

I took 7 years of latin :)

Let's see about doing some lines then!
code for monkey's sake?
code for code's sake?
java for monkey's sake?
java for game's sake?
java for code's sake?
Just play around with a couple and see if any of 'em got a nice ring to it :)
Doesn't have to be for anyone's 'sake' either I suppose. I had a few one-liners going back in the day when me and Momoko_Fan were doing our jME related project, under a group name called MonkeyDo. Same catch phrases could apply here.
Monkey not see, only do.
Our Monkey Kune-Do is stronger.
Our code-monkeys get breaks!
Also, I don't know how far we could take the MGM rip-off without being sued, and I mean that. Because we are not doing a parody on it, but actually making a marketing image for our own entity, we're far off solid ground. I like the idea of some latin phrase though.
Here are some other illustration ideas:
IMAGE: pic of very happy monkey(s) in shackles - jMonkeyEngine stands for equality - our code monkeys are not any more enslaved than the rest
IMAGE: A (cave)man shows a monkey how to light a torch. The monkey has an idea of its own in a mind-bubble, assembling a simple flashlight.
IMAGE: Guy is happily building a simple construct (lego) while the monkey is building a marvelous one, completely engulfed in its own thoughts.
IMAGE: A monkey builds some advanced structure, while a man is glaring at it in envy, as he has clearly been trying to copy the monkeys work, but failed miserably.
Also just noticed that MGM also got this really cool paint-style logo, which wouldn't be a problem to 'copy', because we'd just be applying the style to our own imagery:

I think this might be getting beyond a simple "powered by" logo. When you attend technical conferences, look at white papers for a new spec, play a game, etc… The logos are generally a logo and a name. These are great because the same image is re-used over a number of different places. There's also the bit about the ability to protect an image as opposed to a complex illustration that could almost be construed as art.
When you talk about branding, there usually needs to be one item that's consistent and unchanged. From a legal standpoint, it protects the "image" of the product, but from a PR perspective, it's an identity. I'd say the monkey is our identity, and should be identifiable with the engine.
Think about the idea of seeing a website with a 'download firefox' banner without the traditional firefox around a globe, but rather him building a pyramid or sitting by the pool or something…
When Chuck Norris would develop a round-house-kick-game, he would use the jMonkeyEngine!
sbook said:Yes I can see where you're getting at. The image examples I made above are more like ideas for particular pr campaigns, presentations and that sort of thing, just leaving it out there so that it may pop up more easily later ;)

What we need now (as is what was asked for to begin with so, ehem, sorry for drifting it off) is a simple 'powered by' template. By that I mean a default picture with default text, that's dynamic enough to be played around with a bit to obtain more ideal solutions depending on game/website design.
