Preventing Overclocking

in alot of online games - if you can speed up the current time on youre local pc, you can effect youre play - which is wrong.

Thinking on how to prevent this, maybe on log on the server sends a time value to the client, and periodicaly checks that the server current time is in sync with the clients time value ( benchmarking the clients system time against the time sent to the client ).

Any thoughts ??

Well, that's a feature on the list for JGN.  On startup it can synchronize times and probably rely on nano time instead of the current clock time since it's not based on the clock really at all, just an internal timer with an arbitrary number.
