Ray accros trees ( Shader or Fx ? )

Hey guys ,



I was looking to this incredible game here http://image.jeuxvideo.com/images/p3/d/a/dark-souls-playstation-3-ps3-1296681198-015.jpg and noticed there are something that could be very cool to do in a game . How would you to that ray effect accros trees ? Would it be a Shader ? or special effect particles ?



If someone know can he explain how to do this ?

In this screen shot this looks like geometries, that have a nice texture and a translucent material.



But in order to make it look good it’s more an artist work than a developer work.

To create this effect, create a quad, create a geom from it, apply a material with the texture, maybe attach it to a billboard control, if you want it to always face the camera.

You’ll have to place it correctly in the scene.

But…again…it’ll look good only if you have a good texture
