Time to start on the sequel of 3079… now just what to call it…? Hhhhrrrmmm… 3089!
This new game will leave the “blocky” gameplay behind and instead use smoothly generated terrain & jbullet physics. I also plan on having weapons based on customizable parts and quests made up of procedurally generated tasks. Procedurally generated vehicles, textures & biomes are also on the short list
It will still be a futuristic first-person shooter / action RPG. I want to focus more on combat, quests & role-playing elements and less on stuff like building (e.g. more Fallout/Borderlands and less Minecraft).
And I noticed IndieGameMag has dedicated widget space to Kickstarter in their sidebar; neat! And their currently featured game has already exceeded it’s funding, so…
Also, kudos to you for a very smart pledge goal.
I see you’re talking about procedural biomes, for which @androlo 's BioMonkey would be a perfect fit, but I’m not sure if it’d work with something like Cave3D.

Woah, cool! I'm guessing that the terrain will be deformable as in 3079? Anyways, I'm quite looking forward to seeing your progress on this!
Deformable terrain is possible, although I'm not going to plan for it in the early development stages. I create static physics meshes of the terrain based on noise functions (that don't require saving). I'm planning on making the core of the game really interesting and complete so players don't go looking for the usual "dig and build" gameplay mechanics, which are kinda overused these days.
Thanks @erlend_sh for the suggestions -- lots to do and I'll get on this :)
I just released an update to Gentrieve 2 to bring it out of beta. However, I wouldn't consider it finished. It still needs some balancing tweaks... however, I don't plan on giving it any more "big" features, since development is going to shift towards 3089 very soon!
I am using the cave3d code (http://code.google.com/p/cave3d/) to generate terrain. It doesn’t use voxels at all, but instead a density function. I just modified the code to create terrain instead of caves. Although, I might make some biome types generate cave-like areas instead of flat areas.
Wow @phr00t you already achivied your goal! Impressive! You think with $1k bucks you can develop 3089? Maybe if you use some off the money from 3079 also! Anyways, I played 3079 also and I enjoyed it (a bit, not my kind of game ^^), so I bet 3089 will be way better then the previous one. Maybe you ae thinking of making your career of indie development? (I love this idea!)
Well as I understood the brief the $1k+ is to pay for freelance artists and suchlike - he’s doing the programming himself so doesn’t need to hire developers.
(Although there is an opportunity cost of his own time there, but that’s not really relevant to the kickstarter).

Thanks! Although the $1,000 was just my "minimum" goal, since you receive nothing if you don't make the minimum. Now I will have some money to work with -- and @zarch is right, it is to pay freelance artists & modelers, since artwork is the place where I always need the most help. :P
I'd love to be doing indie development full time... then I could also spend more time at home with my son (who just turned 1 today, yay!).
Working on some inventory stuff now... planning on having "exploded" views on items based on all the parts etc. :)
Thanks again guys!

And please make some mentions of jME on the way ;)
I added a link to jMonkeyEngine at the bottom & I'll include some mentions in future updates :)
I noticed the jmonkeyengine.com site still says "beta" when it should be at RC2, right?

Cheers! I corrected the download link too, thanks.

I think RC2 is the SDK, JME3 itself is still Beta (but with hints of something more coming soon).
Sort of, but since the SDK is the download, we should indeed refer to it as the RC2. I'll upload the box image on .org as well when I'm on the right computer.
Wow, this is damn good stuff. Cave3d looks amazing. I guess you don’t really need help from anyone when it comes to games, but I hear you mentioned vehicles and I’m working with vehicles myself, and if you would like some of the code for realistic engine stuff, RPM, gears, damping forces etc. (stuff that’s not in bullet by default) I can post it np. Guess it woun’t apply to spacecrafts and stuff tho.

Sounds like you are working on some interesting stuff too :) I don't think my vehicles will need that in-depth engine simulation... I plan on using hovercrafts & ships mostly anyway. Thanks for the offer!
The KickStarter has picked up again for some reason, yay! :P Thanks guys!
