Are ShapeKeys considered simply animation in jme or is it possible to use a shapekey while performing animations such as mouth moving or facial expression changing while performing a walk animation.

There is no mesh animation in jME3 yet if thats what you mean. Also theres no exporter for jME3 scenes as not all of the the data could be saved in the export format. Writing an exporter is as much work as writing an importer and the results would probably not be great. You could write an importer for jME3 .xml files on the other side, that would make more sense.
