Shoot'em Up - Design Question

Hi everyone,



I'm currently working on a little Shoot'em Up Framework based on JME. I wanna do those kind of games in the future ;).



It should be possible to have different kinds of games. Static camera (Geometry Wars), horizontal / vertical scrolling,… - always with 2D gameplay.



One thing I want is this:

The camera is making a ride through a scene but the gameplay stays 2D. It's like background and gameplay are in seperated coordinate systems.

Does anybody here have a clever idea to realize this? Like … making the background rotate instead of the camera … or calculating new coordinates for ships and bullets depending on the camera settings?

Have everything in 3D, but two scenes completely seperated and two camera's, one of which renders to a texture and is the overlayed ontop of the other.



Look up TextureRenderer. There are some tests too you might find interesting.
