Should create an entire map as one model?

I am trying to make a prison game as my first real game as practice, but, in Blender, while I was making the map I thought, “Wait, will the culling work correctly if the entire map is one model?”

So… is it a bad idea, performance-wise, to make the whole map a single model?

Depends on the model.

Break it into multiple parts.

…but really you may not need to… depending on the model.

Well, the model is going to be the entire map. The entire map will be a prison, and so it will be around the size of 9 houses

One model is probably ok as long as it’s not one giant mesh. Only loading it into the scene editor will tell you for sure.
