Hi,
We have been working on Skullstone for over 6 years. The premiere is scheduled for 2022, but from today until October 7 you can play the demo on Steam!
Congrats!
Wow, it’s been a long road.
Visually, Skullstone is a stunner. Thanks for representing JME in a positive light!
By the way, the Engine’s README has a dead link to “https://skullstonegame.com/” What’s the best URL for the Skullstone project?
I gave the demo a try and it’s looking great! I didn’t get very far because I’m admittedly not very good with this style of game and never played many dungeon crawlers. So I’m likely not the target audience but still am finding it to be fun!
I think I found a bug preventing me from going any further (or maybe I’m just being dumb and struggling to figure out how to open the door )
I died pretty fast on my first trip into the mines, I don’t think I made it past the second or third room lol. But now I am trying to go back into the mine, and am stuck behind the first door with the spiders on the other side. When I click the rope to open the door, it appears to be locked and doesn’t open all of the way, so I’m stuck behind this door and cannot progress. I am guessing that the player would usually have opened up this door, but because I did so bad on my first trip to the mines I did not open and now it seems to be stuck
Looking forward to testing the game more soon once I am no longer stuck
Also, it could be of use if someone with access to the JME twitter makes a tweet announcing that Skullstone is listed as coming soon in 2022 and is now available for demo to help get extra attention.
I double checked. Actually our README has the HTTP address. My browser is set to automatically change “http:” to “https:”. Sorry for creating confusion.
EDIT: … but supporting HTTPS would still be a good thing!
Look for some switch or lever.
Yes, I know, I’m trying to install some plugin for that in wordpress.
Btw, move your fighters to the front line (drag the pictures), red weapon icons means that they are unable to attack.
We need to add more pages to the tutorial.
Congratulations! it’s been a long road
Congratulations! I’ve been enjoying your periodic dev updates, and I’m glad to see you’ve made it to release!
Congrats! Your game looks awesome!
Awesome! Congrats and also shut up and take my money! Enjoyed Dungeon Master and the (actually Finnish) spiritual successors, Legend of Grimrocks… so yes, you’ll have my money
Congratulations!
It looks beautiful (if that’s the right word for a dungeon full of rats). My one suggestion would be to include more of a tutorial level, maybe with a predetermined set of 4 characters. I found my self clicking and hoping what I was doing was right (and I ended up with some meat from a rat that I wasn’t quite sure what to do with)
We need to add more tutorial pages for sure.
Congratulations! I was very happy when I saw the trailer in Realms deep. I instantly recognized the game as it has such unique looks.
Are you planning on making builds for linux and mac?
I’m not sure about mac, but build for linux is planned.
If you’d like to be interviewed for the JMonkeyEngine Blog, just let me know!
ok i will contact you as soon as i have more free time.
I played some more today and am still stuck behind this door at the lift when I enter the mines again after dying.
I did manage to play more by making a new save file, and I did a lot better on my second attempt, but when I died and pressed continue, I lost all of the items I had collected and it looks like I got reverted to the starting inventory for each character.
Here is also a video of where I am stuck. I see a sign that says “keep the gates locked so our workers won’t run” but can’t find a switch/lever or anything to interact with in order to unlock the gate that’s stuck. Is this the end of the demo here or am I still missing something else?
