I've got a 1500VA CyberPower unit (I think it's rated for 950 or 915 watts)... Works fine for me with two desktops (600W and 430W PSU's) and two monitors (though only one is on the battery). Thankfully it's only had to do it's job once, but it gave me enough time to shut down both computers.
As far as brands go, I used to buy APC but the suppression specs on their more recent units aren't very flattering. That said, I've bought three CyberPowers now and haven't had a problem with any yet.
thanks for the advice man much appreciated…yet another piece of equipment I may have to import…the drawback of livin in a banana republic 
I'll get a ups but the business men are so unscrupulous they'll mostly import, no better than 500VA/s and then try to convince u that that's suffient…those guy will sell u snake oil for viagra, I u dont have a good head on your shoulders sigh
