it's simply projecting a grid of points onto a plane, not extremely cpu-heavy…and his implementation does all that on the gpu

which version? only the radeon version(needs 9500+) runs on the gpu…on nvidia, the normals are generated on the cpu…

Both of them. On the Radeon one it runs at 55FPS with a Radeon 9600XT, on the other one it runs at like 28 FPS. But in both cases, it uses all of my remaining CPU.
