Exception_Access_Violation @ particle emitters

Hello there!



I’ve been getting the following bug report at random times when adding particle emitters to the screen. I found a similar post in here which seems to have been solved for the author by one of the two replies being:

a) using the latest nightly version.

b) updating video driver.

I have done both without any succes. At first I thought this issue had to do with having calls to the rootnode in event-generated threads but having moved the calls to the updater (using my events to create jobs for the updater to perform) haven’t changed anything.

Just figured I’m having the same problem with the jme3test.effect test applications.

Do any other tests have this issue?

Which tests in jme3test.effects crash exactly?

I’m having the same problem with the standard particle emitter tutorial. I was using a nightly build from about two weeks ago. With that build, the tutorial would run for about two seconds then crash, every time. I updated to the latest nightly build (3-11). Now it sometimes crashes immediately, but more often will run successfully without crashing.

What video card are you using? I assume you updated to the latest driver?

I’m using the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 on a Dell Studio laptop. I haven’t updated the video drivers, though. The machine is only a few months old and the vid driver is still the pre-installed one. I’ll try updating it and see if I can still reproduce the problem.

Ok, I updated to the latest video driver and re-tried. I ran it once and it didn’t make it to displaying any graphics before crashing. I can post the error log if you want it, but here’s the output from my console:

I’m also getting random crashes in atioglxx.dll using a mobility HD5650 (latest driver) on my laptop. I have only gotten this with the particle tests (not the pointsprite one, but hat could be random).

@Remy: are you seeing this issue on your ATI with latest driver? I will have to test this too

I’ll try tonight, I installed the latest drivers yesterday.

I tested TestWalkingChar and TestHoveringTank, and shot like mad everywhere to create particle emitter.

But there was no error



spec is ATI 5970 with drivers 8.840.3.0 released on 02/26/2011

Didn’t see any errors with the particle tests on a 4870 with an old driver so it’s no doubt some cards/driver combos.



Just tested the TestWalkingChar and TestHoveringTank. Didn’t get an error with either of those on the 5650… So for some reason those two tests seem to work with the 5650 while most effect tests fail.

Ok, I put in the 3-17 nightly build. On my first run, it dumped an error, but after that it was solid - no problems. I started up the hello effects tutorial code numerous times without a single glitch after that first run. Not sure what happened on that one, but it doesn’t look like it’s reproducible.

Still getting random crashes here.
