Is it too easy to make JME accounts?

I’ve deleted+blocked at least five spammers today (I’ve lost count)… that created accounts and posted 8+ of the same message.

I don’t know anything about the software the runs the forum but I wonder if there is some way to make it harder for these scumbags to make accounts.

What if there’s a practical Java test for registration?

Yeah, something that would benefit jMonkeyEngine. Like please make a Java/LWJGL implementation of global illumination. Different kind of tasks.

I don’t know what creating an account is like here because I’ve had one since two or three forums ago… but I was hoping there is some kind of “yes, I’m a human” test that might need to be upgraded or something.

Edit: P.S.: none so far today. It was like whack-a-mole yesterday.

I wouldn’t be surprised if discourse supported some sort of recaptcha thingy that could be enabled. But at this point, with AI everywhere, I also wouldn’t be surprised if the bots could get by recaptcha.

Solving a captcha is I’m sure possible for an AI, but you dont have to stop them completely; just make it more expensive to solve than the (presumably pitiful) amount they make by posting spam
