I would recommend going through the tutorials on the Wiki instead of asking what the Java3D alternative is.  Particularly since in many cases there will not be a direct alternative in jME.  They are both scenegraphs, but there are major distinguishing factors between the two engines and it is worthwhile to take the time to try to understand them.
