List of IDE's

I thought it would be nice to have an exhaustive list of IDE's that are available out there… So if everyone could share what program the use to write java code and list any others that they have used or heard of, that would be great. Also, list the status of the software (ie. free and open source or cost $1000 or whatever).

With that in mind, I will start. I currently use Netbeans 6.5 RC (Release Candidate) which is now fully released as Netbeans 6.5. This can be found at www.Netbeans.org. This is a free and open source progam.

BTW, this isn't a post to determine which IDE is better, just to get a good list of the different programs that are out there. Thanks

We just finished idewars over here… http://www.jmonkeyengine.com/jmeforum/index.php?topic=9892.0

Also… here is a really cool link for finding more java ides

Sorry, I wasn't trying to start another IDE wars, I saw the post that you were referring to and I thought it would be nice to compile a list of the different IDEs, I didn't plan for this thread to debate about which to use, just to offer a list.

No worries  :). Just that a simple listing is not worth much... If I put 30 names here how will it be useful? The question will be asked 'so whats the difference' ... and that is the opening comment for a new number of pro-and-con arguments.

I think a good idea would be to check out some existing reviews. There are also some comparisons out there on the web already...
Comparison of 5 popular IDEs
Comparison of 3 popular IDEs
Free Java IDE roundup
etc..

Just what I was looking for. Thanks!

… and make sure the reviews you are reading/linking are not utterly outdated!

It is crazy what a concern outdated information can be in the field of computer science as compared to other fields.

Thanks for bringing it out.. I admit I did not reading of those articles myself.. nor did I check the dates. just googled and chose by title... There is just a mountain of info available...

Sometimes it is good to see what wikipedia has to say:

Netbeans - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netbeans

Eclipse - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eclipse_(software)

IntelliJ - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intellij

Besides that, it seems hard to just find a regular article that isn't too outdated… oh well.
