When is it expected to be released ?

I think I will keep the source closed. Is there anything in particular you are interested in?

I just love all this 3D stuff but I dont have the time and knowledge to do my own stuff ...
so there is just little things that i would like to look up ..

for example the ui and the lines in the editor that come when you create a hill...
but if you wanna keep it your its fine ;)

When is it expected to be released ?

Hopefully February. I'm starting to feel pressed for time though, since I have had to take on some consulting jobs to put food on the table.

Im curious how you made the terrain and the overal game look like its a 2d game.

Also, can you tell anything about performance? Can it run on slow computers? Ofcourse slow is relative… but perhaps you ran it on a box that isnt really powerfull and still got a nice fps rate?

The terrain is just at mesh constructed from a height map. The 2D-look of the 3D-terrain is due to parallell projection, and the rest is 2D.

I develop on a 1250Mhz AMD (1600+ or some such) with geForce 4 Ti, and it runs the game at about 90 fps with the simple shadows (those you see in the most recent video). I am fill-rate limited, and one way to make even older computers run would be to remove a few layers from the parallax background, and possibly adjust the amount of particles. The gui is filled with various blended layers and also hurts the fill-rate badly.

The sixth entry of Turborilla Developer Diary is published:

December -07 : Testing

“What is the difference between alpha and beta tests? This developer diary entry describes my take on alpha and beta testing of games.”

Certainly  . Might have to skip a few months or they will all be this boring.

Tobias, please correct the link. I think you mispelled it It's not working the way you typed it (without the : and with "")

The most boring entry so far, that's a good sign for the state of development

Hi Tobias!

I'm impressed by motorcross editor.

I don't know how to do that! Can you bother if giving me some advice!

Thanks!

Sure thing! In fact, I’m certain that the whole community will help you. Post each specific question in a new thread, and everyone will try to help you (but use the search first to see if it has been asked before).

A new entry of the Turborilla Developer Diary has been published. It reveals what the testers thought of the first alpha-test of Mad Skills Motocross.

Read the quotes, and watch a new video here: April -08 : The Test Results Are In

The new video looks fantastic!  Great work Tobias.

A new Developer Diary entry has been published, read about particle system effects and watch a video of the new countdown sequence:

http://turborilla.com/developer-diary/july--08-divisions-and-tracks.html

PS. Yes, I know, still way behind schedule  DS.

man thats cool, i'm looking forward to the jme integration of JOPS i'll definately want to play with it.

The new starting sequence looks nice and i like the idea of the meta game structure, it makes you want to beat the game and thus you keep playing till the end :).

How much time do you invest daily / weekly into the game?

Nice (although I can't seem to see the second movie?)

Also any particular features in JOPS you feel that we need to add to our particle system?

How much time do you invest daily / weekly into the game?

About 25 hours/week for the past two months, a lot less before that since I had a lot of consulting work at that time.

Also any particular features in JOPS you feel that we need to add to our particle system?

It's mainly the time-line stuff, but that is already included in jME 2.0? Also, I found the JOPS editor a lot easier to work with than RenParticleEditor. I find the UI of RenPE confusing, I can't determine which tab contains a certain setting.

Also, without investigating too much, JOPS seems more extendable and modular and it's easy to get the extensions working in the editor.

Can you see the video on the front page? Or any video on turborilla.com?

Yeah, timeline, including texture animations, etc. is part of 2.0 already.  Too each his own though.  Would love to improve the editor if you had a specific suggestion.

The video is showing up today.  shrug  Maybe MS rebooting my machine for me helped.

Dude! this looks like a really fun game your working on. Ive also played Exite Bike ages ago and Mad Skills Motocross has brought back some fine memories.

Ive just started using jME, FengGUI and ODE stuff very recently and everytime i get stuck on something I come read some random stuff on the forum for inspiration. And I must say your thread has given me some great mojo back to start tackling it again.

Keep up the good work, I look forward to playing MSM alot
