Motivation :

After sometime playing around with JME3, I feel quite self-confident and got some own tools to make a first try on a real game in JME (finally)…

Since I was an asset artist in my game company and not a really good coder, it’s quite bad that I decide to make this game asset-rich but not code-advanced ! :stuck_out_tongue:

And the game type is horror / adventure / puzzle which gives me a lot of fun fooling around with writing script with twisted plot and mistery puzzle which I love the most.

    Short: Two students from an elite school was trapped in the deep wood among of strange creature and fight till they last blood to survive.

    Gameplay

  • - Player plays Kian and later Selena (the hot chick ) in the journey find the truth of the massive kill.

  • - Use the retrained tool and props to block the devils and survive in the limited time...
    - Solve a lot of puzzles in Math and Physics Small Game to win the weapon and find the clue...
    The balance game is one of the highlight which player control two kids Kian and Selena to make the balance in a rock Seesaw ...

  • - Player must use almost everything such as: the Cigarette-lighter , the rope , the flashlight, the knife, the broken glass, even water and gasoline as weapon ...
    The locations are: the house, the wood, the secret tunnel, one tomb and some more location in the grow of the story ...

  • - Use death's diary and hand-drawed map, marks to remember, mark and find the next way (such as the maze in the secret tunnel )

Tech specification :

- The engine is of course : JME3
- The interface will use official Nifty GUI which becomes more and more powerful , but it's still lack of an editor (:p)
- The editor program will be Blender and 3dsmax ( it's sad that I'm just do well with this prog !)
- FPS Framework Based : Technically, it is based in FPS shooter... But there is as least shooting as possible !
- Scripting : It's heavier in scripting ( i will do in Groovy ) and ( physics challenger and brain kill puzzle )
- Entity System framework :
- Cinematic improvements :
- Other, trying my best to make some decal system, which I wish I had in JME3!
***** Almost stuff like scripting and entity placing, cinematic and may be some logic constraint for AI... will be done in my own improved SDK (which may make me quite proud of JME)
<- After finish this small game I will be back to release the SDKs extra plugin code, I promise !

The painting of two Main character :Kian and Selena

Kian had a tattoo look like the number “142” in his arm since he was born …

He tied his neck-tie to his hand to protect his bare hand when holding sharp weapon…



They all wear university uniform as they are on the trip of their class…



But Selena take off the skirt when she is drunken and gone wild by the weird poison…

The metal chain was found in her hand when she wake up and she was once success in escape from the devil too…

Progress:

I’m just finish the 3d model of the main characters and some evil wolves for the bad team …

An early screen cast will come a few next days … When i’m finish install the new conelight and ambient sounds !

  • Grab some “run-able code” and go shooting in the crime scene for a while to see how they look!
  • Entity System and Scripting Intergate.



    2nd :
  • Consider a “LogicFramework for RPG”?
  • Continue to improve the SDK for Cinematic and … (am I crazy?) Facial Expression !
  • Want to make my own Color correction filter(LUT), Old TV filter for Horror Effect… and maybe some animation filter for the Intro, Digging in SDK code to find a way to test this filter in FilterExplorer, but FAIL (I will post a question soon :p) !



    3nd :
  • Try to make a weapon System which control the animtion of changing weapons (such as bring the gun from character’s back, then put it in his hand and vise versa) . Try to make “hold box” which control the hold position and direction in SDK.

  • Add more animation to the characters … And more expression in face (bone animation only) <= I’m still wonder will mesh morphing be supported in JME in the furture?

    As you can see, he’s a pretty damn handsome boy (for God Sake :p) .

    I will try to make him a little bit uglier and more manly in the next attempt (like a man, he drink beers not cokes :[ ) ! Not just his cute face, his body physical look quite good with comic’s hero-style but the body will be modified to be more realistic in the future.




    The girl will come in next post (Wait until I finished drawing her clothes ! :p)


  • The UI : I made some quick draft for the UI in papers then try to combine the idea in PTS. Here is the result I got so far:

Advices needed:



Guys, I’m concerning about how to warn player before they are going to play my game… Because it’s kind of scary and has a lot of blood and crazy things happen . (Of course it’s a horror game but) … I want to describe its gameplay such like “Amnesia: The Dark Descent” … It can make your heart drop sometime…!

I tell the players their can "Quit or face their destiny or something" like that:
I also want to show how the power of NiftyGUI suits for crazy effect :p (... I mean good-looking effect).

Please give me some comment about what you think!

There are as many ways to do this as there are programmers… That intro you have is fine, but it’s not what a parent would expect for example.



One way to do this is to have a short text printed at first in a nifty layer (or whatever you’re using for GUI) warning the player that it’s a horror game, etc… Then switch to the one showcased above (with less shaking and shifting IMO).



But as I said, if you ask 20 people, you’ll get 20 different opinions. :wink:

Umh, maybe I will make it simpler because it is kind of annoying and make a bad impression of my game at first.

Personally the parental warnings on games specifically I find rather hilarious. I mean unless the parents are gamers and actually play the same games a parental warning tends to act more as a marketing agent than anything else (“MOoooooooom. Can I have this game?” “Human Meat Grinder 2? What’s it about?” “Ummm… Bunnies! That errr… help humans make…uhhh… sausages with a meat grinder to feed the ummm… homeless!” “SURE!”). But if I WERE to do one I’d maybe use your skully background there and do a nifty box that is a bit more expansive than “Mountains of blood!” (A selling point in my mind). Possibly with a check box to at least confirm that they’ve at least pretended to read the warning. Just my thought on Parental warnings in general.
