[SOLVED] Warning Messages while installing JMonkey 3.2 SDK1

I used the steps below to install JMonkey 3.2 SDK1.

I found 12 update available, and I installed them, which led to reboot the SDK.

I also notice from the picture above that the version number during the update is SDK 3.1

I am hoping that someone can share with me what those warning above means.

My OS is Fedora 27 Cinnamon Spin (Compaq Presario F763NR notebook).

What’s your graphic card? and up to date drivers?
Basically you won’t be able to have gamma correction in the editor. but I’m surprised as it’s standard opengl.

Hey, thanks for your report.
I try to look into the Error with the wizard.xml.
I guess that I simply forgot to change the update screen to 3.2 but updated the color, so you are actually running 3.2.

The other warnings are from the engine and at least the “Pausing audio device not supported” is one I see on every device/jme application I run, this could be due to openAL on Linux, not sure what it does on Windows.

It means JMonkey using LWJGL, which cannot handle hardware that are too old correct? I keep thinking that they don’t have enough knowledge to go way back to get old hardware to work. It means not my Nvidia driver right?

"sRGB is unrelated to monitors. It was indeed convenient for CRT monitors to display sRGB images, simply because their gamma curve matched sRGB precisely. Modern LCD monitors simulate the same gamma response, so from our point of view nothing has changed.

The real reason we use sRGB is because it allows us to pack more useful information in 8 bits. Think of it as a compression scheme from linear-space to gamma-space, in such a way the preserves more information towards the “dark” side of the visible spectrum, where the human eye is more sensitive to details. This is true in general and doesn’t have anything to do with the output technology, it’s only about being able to store a nice image in as little bits as possible.

Now, ARB_framebuffer_sRGB (which is what PixelFormat.withSRGB enables) provides two pieces of functionality:

a) Automatically converts the shader output (assumed to be linear) to sRGB and stores that to the framebuffer. This is trivial to do manually using shader arithmetic, so that’s not too useful.
b) Performs blending in linear space. This is super important. What happens is this:

A: shader output (linear)
X: blending operation
B: previous framebuffer color (sRGB)
F: final framebuffer color (sRGB)

F = (A X B.toLinear()).toSRGB()

There’s nothing else in OpenGL that lets you do that. As a bonus, the blending operation is performed with higher accuracy (I’m guessing in 16-bit floating-point or a fixed-point format with 10+ bits per channel).

So the answer is yes, you should still care about sRGB if you want to do gamma-correct rendering."

So, there is no sRGB framebuffer support in this case, because the hardware is not capable.

It’s probably your driver. Run

glxinfo

and look for any GLX_ARB_framebuffer_sRGB or GL_ARB_framebuffer_sRGB extensions in the output. My guess is you won’t find any. Assuming that’s the case, LWJGL has nothing to do with it - the driver doesn’t support sRGB at all. It’s possible that a LWJGL (or driver) bug could prevent the sRGB functionality from being detected by LWJGL, but considering the age of your hardware/driver I don’t think that’s indicated at this point.

However the driver does many stuff itself, so it’s possible that the SRGB Calculations are all a driver-side thing, it’s quite common for gpus to support Extensions which were published after the gpu’s market start.

For instance those conversions could be an internal computeshader/openCL thing. But it’s not possible to tell without upgrading.

You should wrap that stuff with three backticks (```) before and after the info.

According to that output, GLX_EXT_framebuffer_sRGB is available so your driver is technically capable of sRGB functionality. I’m taking a shot in the dark here because I don’t know for sure, but my guess is that either jME or LWJGL is getting sRGB functionality from the GL ARB extension. Without that extension, sRGB support won’t be available.
