I would like to take a moment to make a not-that-brief-after-all announcement.
The jMonkeyEngine project has recently come under new management, and first steps are being made (1, 2, 3, 4) as part of a complete restructuring in order to promote the efforts of the active and persistent. Embracing the new blood so to speak, hot boiling bubbles and all.
There’s also a change in scope and general development. A new branch is on the rise, recently having been deemed “official” in conjunction with the change in management. The 3.0 branch with all its major refactoring aims to be the next big and necessary step of maturing for jME. The intention is to make jME stronger as a whole, meaning jME2 will be better supported than ever, and it will stay that way for as long as the community see fit, in which case we are probably talking years ahead still.
jME3 seeks to invite a ‘new breed’, while gradually taking on the adept old as they finish their jME2-reliant projects and grow ready to try on the new.
Here’s the thing about the ‘Dev Observers’; we don’t know you, but we would like nothing more than getting to know you. If you still have projects or affiliates attached to the jME project, we would like to know about it. We would like to know what there is to do about it, what more there is to learn about it. You’ll be dealing with unfamiliar front-figures, but the bright-headed community is the same.
Once we are all about development again and not so much re-everything, naturally this would be the time to start reaching out to whomever deemed potentially interested and valuable. But if there are actual on-going projects that we do not know, or do not know well enough, it is not in either party’s gain that we remain alienated from one another.
The ‘Architecture Discussion’ is about to be re-purposed and merged with other boards, so please get in touch by e-mail.
Most Sincerely,
Erlend Sogge Heggen
