We need an awesome code name for "3.0 Stable" – what's it gonna be?

How about convergent evolution? The tree kangaroo!

@ags1 heh, the idea of a tree-kangaroo got me thinking of hybrids, which led me to Humanzees, aka “Chumans” or “Manpanzees”. Maybe not for stable release code names, but we’ll have to weave those treekangaroos, flying squirrels and manpanzees into some hybrid monstrosity at one point.

@toolforger the list of fictional monkeys is great. I love the idea of a “Mr. Nilsson” (Pippi Longstockings’ monkey) release, but I’m a bit afraid of copyright issues.

@nihal I’m also quite fond of the game items theme. It’d be easy to make relevant tie-ins with features as well, e.g. the “Wand of Blasting” release for when the new particle system is the highlight of the new release. Then again, we can also have a “Blazing Baboon”, so it works either way.

A new theme addition: Stuff that monkeys eat.

That would almost be like a middle road between the monkey species theme and the game items theme. You can also make some pretty funny combinations with that if you imagine the menu of a creative monkey chef. Think Timon and Pumbaa. I for one would have a blast thinking up the flavor text for these things.

“Nutty Dung Beetles”
We hand pick only the most juicy and ambitious dung beetles, who leave the competition in the shadow of their giant balls of turd. The beetles are served on a bed of leaves with chopped cashews and hazelnuts sprinkled on top.

“Explotastic Mango”
Every Baboon’s favorite. We marinade a perfectly ripe mango in an exquisite mixture of Trinidad Moruga chili peppers and assorted herbs. This fiery starter will literally shred your tongue of any taste buds, making a clean slate for next week’s meal when you’re ready to eat solids again.

What’s more, this would in fact make way for an eventual Manbug, a feast to behold (10 people minimum).

p.s. We’ll leave the seriousness to the technology. I have no intentions of growing up, ever.

Stuff that monkeys eat will eventualy get you to poop…

Maybe combining mythical elements with monkey and mix in some software technologies.

“Fractal Gorilla of Smashing”
“Blazing Perlin-Baboon”
“Glacial Voxel-Langur”
“Enchanted Shader-Saimiri”

Monkeys eat feces right? Can we just call it jMonkeyEngine 3.0 “Feces” then?

Approved.

In all honesty, “Capuchin” gets my vote.

Alright, time to get this settled. Thanks for all the suggestions monkeys!

The votes are in! And the winner is…

Capuchin Prime

Yeti was a very close second (eh what?). “Manbug” was second last; you don’t know what you’re missing.

Now we just need a nutty looking capuchin image / drawing to augment the release. It needs to be an “in your face” sort of thing, if you get what I mean.

Monkeybots, transform!!

Some inspiration

I think something like this is more representative of JMonkeyEngine users ^^

lol… just needs a neck beard and a cola… and a “mom’s basement” backdrop. I kid because I care. heheh

So with all that stuff, it’s an advanced user like you ^^

I like the last one… potential for a little attitude.

The one Google brings up by default for Capuchin has a little attitude also.

ROfl, now this works:

A straightup search for “Capuchin Prime” also brings up some cool ones:

Keep in mind these images are just for inspiration, no idea which (if any) are public domain.
