What do u guys use to generate skybox textures?

 just wanna get some info on this topic.

im using terragen2 atm. but it doenst allow me to render anything bigger than 800*600, so the quality is not really that good.

and terragen0.9 doesnt allow me to render a scene above the clouds, so i cant use that.

what r u guys using? any good softwares to do this besides terragen?

texture maker is imho one of the best (commercial) texture generators. it can also render landscapes - a bit like terragen.

what do you mean by "render a scene above the clouds"?

i mean the camera is located above the clouds, so the bottom texture of the skybox is just a layer of cloud, u can c the ground.

i tried to use terragen, but it doesnt allow muitiple layers of clouds, so i used terragen2, it works fine. i just placed my camera above the lowest layer of clouds.

kind like the scene u would c if u r in an airplane.

i have texturemaker too. never used it though~ ill try it out today. thx for sharing.

so is it any good?

i tried it, but i still can't render a scene where the camera is placed above the first layer of clouds.
well, actually FirstDayEngine doesnt support multiple layers of clouds.

do u know how to render this?

and just to make things clear, what i want is a scene where the camera is placed above the clouds which means that the DOWN image would be a picture of a layer of clouds instead of a terrain or sea. its like the kind of image ull c when u r in an airplane flying above the clouds.

thx~ and sry for the delay. spent the weekend with my gf

maybe you could render a "normal" scene with a lot of clouds, not render the ground and then just "flip" all the skybox textures (i.e. use the bottom texture as the top texture and viceversa) you could probably also render more such images if you need clouds above and below and do some post processing with a image tool (like gimp or photoshop) to blend them with each other.

you could probably do all the post processing in texturemaker too.

thx for the suggestion. ill try it out. but texturemaker is alot faster than terragen2, and this is always good~ :D

back with more ideas about texturemaker.

the cloud in texturemaker is kind weird. it reflects the sky color. well, in other words, the clouds are not white + gray. they have pretty much the same color as the sky.

i tried adjust all the parameters, but nothing works. i think ill have to get back to terragen2…
