Advice for new teams & press kit tools

Came by an article today that reminded me of the types of questions (and, thanks to our many wise monkeys, answers) budding developers ask on this forum:

This article linked me to a resource that I’ll definitely be making some good use of myself:

I decided to give this a whirl in preparation for our Stable release. Here’s the first draft of the official jMonkeyEngine 3 Presskit:

Nice.

I’ve got the HeroDex/Zero Sep ones nearly ready to go (have had for a month in fact!) but need a few last bits done to finish them (mostly the trailer that hopefully work is starting on next week).

Should the additional links bit be in alphabetical order? (Or alternatively group things like the various phroot games together?)

You mean you're working with presskit() as well, or just a custom package? I've run into some minor bugs that I had to circumvent already, so let me know if you get stuck with some weirdness. Apparently the author is gonna publish the source to GitHub when he reaches v1.0, so then I can finally start submitting public tickets.

He he, I figured someone would ask about that. Right now it's ordered roughly by "completion status", hence phr00t's two released games on top. This way everyone sort of gets their chance to be "on top" for a while - all you got to do is ship :P And in a perfect world (doesn't seem too far off thanks to awesome projects like the ones listed!), we would have so many released games to our name that there wouldn't be any need to list the WIPs (or at least list them in a separate category all together), in which case the "ordered by ship date" would make even more sense.

Yeah, I’m working with presskit(). It’s pretty good so far. Only real complaint is that empty categories still appear - would rather they weren’t there at all.

(For example a freshly released game clearly hasn’t won any awards yet - but you wouldn’t expect it to…so why draw attention to the lack by having a section there in the document but with nothing in it).

I'm not working locally any longer, i.e. it's all FTP from here. Sooo, ima save that one for the next bigger revision :P

Something I’ve noticed that might be useful for other people using Press Kit. Our press release linked to the Zero Separation Press Kit page, not the HeroDex one (there is a link to that from the ZS one). The articles posted so far have all used a couple of images from the ZS page and not any of the ones from the HeroDex one so it’s clear no-one so far is clicking through. They just follow the first link, grab a couple of images, go.

So next press release will link directly to the HeroDex page inside the Press Kit
