jMonkeyEngine runs on Avian now for the iOS version. Wouldn’t it be a good idea to use Avian on Windows, Mac and Linux too then? Would be more efficient than bundling OpenJDK.
Would be possible but for one it would require supporting the cross-compiler from our side (which already is problematic just for iOS) and it wouldn’t exactly be “more efficient” either. The JRE has a much better VM with JIT, many options for the garbage collector etc.
