i use 3.2RC7 (updated each milesoneand release candidate) but never had such problems. maybe cleaning the project first would help.
the only setting i could find for the progress view was that "show sleeping and system operations". you can access that setting in the dropdown menu of the progress view (upper right corner). at least in RC7 it's there 
but usually the progress view provides enough information for me.
