hello, i apologize because I cannot help you solve your problem, however, I am very curious as to how you got to that screen displaying the usage of memory inside of java. How can I access that? Thank you

You're welcome. It's the jvisualvm, which is distributes with the sun JDK 1.6 since Update 10 or so.
Just execute jvisualvm in a terminal of your choice and go wild with the options 
It's essentially the netbeans profiler as an own tool.
